AMERICA: CLASSIC ROCKERS STILL LOVE TO ENTERTAIN
[Apr 07]
With more than thirty years of playing music up their sleeves, the soft folk-rock band from the 70’s, America rolled into Australia to perform a number of concerts to their ever-faithful fans, young and old.
It is fair to say that anybody that grew up in the 70’s would have a number of America’s hits etched in their brains; their timeless music has no doubt been a part of music collections throughout the world, Australia being no exception.
With founding member Gerry Beckley leading the band, his somewhat tanned, wrinkled face still displayed a huge smile and joy in his eyes, showing that he still loves to entertain his fans. He announced, “These aren’t oldies, these songs are classic rock,” which launched the audience back in time with the acoustic sound of Riverside, Beckley’s memorable Ventura Highway, I Need You, Tin Man and their 1982 hit You Can Do Magic.
More of their timeless classics followed including Don’t Cross The River, Lonely People and the Jamaican sound of Woman Tonight; the audience were pleased to hear a mix of their newer songs Once Chance, Chasing The Rainbow, Ride On and Glass King. Beckley and Bunnell managed to joke with each other during the show and the newest member, bassist Campbell (who bears a resemblance to funny man Wil Ferrell) added his own intensity to the sound.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an America concert without the inclusion of such well-known hits, Sandman, Sister Golden Hair and the most favourite, Horse With No Name … all timeless classics!
